Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

A Deep Vein Thrombosis is a condition which a blood clot forms deep in a vein of the leg. This can be a life-threatening if the clot travels to the lung and blocks blood flow, known as a pulmonary embolism.

DVT can occur if patients are immobile or stationary for a prolonged period of time after a surgery.

Patients with DVT may experience pain, swelling, chest pain or shortness of breath.

Treatment

Our interventional radiologists guide a catheter through a pinhole puncture to the site of the clot using X-Ray guidance. Then they can deliver a clot-busting drug to break up the clot and restore proper blood flow. A stent may also be placed to help prevent future clots.
