Blood Clots

Blood clots can occur due to a variety of conditions, one of the main being peripheral artery disease (PAD). Although these clots normally occur in the leg, these clots can travel or occur in some organs. It can cause permanent damage to organs if they are present in the heart, brain or lungs.

Treatment: Thrombolysis

Thrombolysis is a minimally invasive procedure often used as an emergency treatment to dissolve clots in the legs, heart, brain or lungs to prevent permanent damage. Through a pinhole puncture, a catheter is guided using X-Ray imaging to the site of the clot. Then the Interventional Radiologist can administer clot-busting drugs or use a tiny mechanical device to remove or break up the clot.
