Migraines
More than 38 million people suffer from migraines in the US. They are most common in people ages 25 to 55 and more common in women.
A person with migraines may experience excruciating headaches, throbbing or pulsating pain, light or sound sensitivity, nausea and problems with vision. Migraines can immensely affect a person's daily activities at work or at school.
The exact cause of migraines are unclear but researchers believe genetics and environmental factors play a role.
Treatment : SPG Block
Usually a combination of medication is used to treat migraines. However, our doctors use a new minimally invasive procedure that has been found to relieve or even eliminate migraine symptoms.
Our doctors guide a very small catheter through the nasal passages to a bundle of nerves called the sphenopalatine ganglion, which is associated with migraines. Then they use lidocaine, a numbing medication, to block the SPG from firing pain signals.
This procedure, although not a cure for migraines, has been found to be successful in relieving or eliminating migraine symptoms. The procedure takes only minutes and patients can resume their daily activities that same day.
