Varicose Veins
Varicose veins can be caused by weak vein walls and vein valves. In your veins, you have valves that open to let blood pass through and then close to prevent blood from flowing backwards. If these valves are weak and are not functioning properly, blood will flow back and start to collect and pool in your vein. This is what causes veins to look swollen, bulged out and twisted. Some patients may experience pain due to varicose veins.
Treatments
Endovenous Laser Ablation
This minimally invasive procedure involves inserting a very thin fiber into the vein through a pinhole puncture. The thin fiber emits laser light which seals the vein shut. The blood is automatically rerouted to other healthy veins with no adverse effects.
Sclerotherapy
This treatment option is also minimally invasive but instead of using laser light, a salt solution is injected into the vein to close the damaged veins. Over time the varicose veins will die off and become less noticeable until they completely disappear.
